Levi Strauss Tries the Nike Strategy of Alienating Customers
Soviet diplomats, sailors, spies and others who could leave Russia packed lightly during the Cold War. Then they would stuff every available inch of space they had with American blue jeans before they went back home to the Evil Empire.
They sold the jeans for a massive profit on the black market. Soviet youths wanted to emulate the way American rock stars dressed. There were even reports of Russians being stabbed for a pair of jeans. American denim jeans were a symbol of freedom to the rest of the world.
Which is why it’s truly ironic to see jeans-maker Levi Strauss continuing its long march to destroy the Second Amendment and American freedom as we know it.
The Levi CEO, Chip Bergh, announced last week that the jeans company was launching three new gun-grabbing and propaganda initiatives. You have to wonder if Chip talked it over with his board of directors first and asked them whether 100 million American customers are unnecessary, or if Chip just did this on his own. No matter.
Chip says there are three new areas of anti-gun tyranny that Levi Strauss will focus on. We say “new” because the Levi corporation has about a 20-year track record of wiping its corporate rear-end with the Second Amendment. Here are Chip’s ‘big ideas.’
First, he plans to set up a fund to funnel money to Democrats, nonprofit groups and “youth activists.” Chip didn’t specify whether these would be youth activists in the vein of crisis actor Brat Hogg from Parkland, or more like that Antifa youth group we keep hearing good things about.
Next, Chip plans to partner with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Soros-wannabe group, to form a new gun-grabbing money funnel system for the Democrat Party, known as “Everytown Business Leaders for Gun Safety.”
Chip’s third big idea is to match employee contributions to anti-Second Amendment politicians and to give all employees five hours of paid time off to agitate against the NRA and other pro-gun groups. We’re starting to think that maybe Chip doesn’t like guns.
The Levi CEO issued a helpful statement in explaining his utter contempt for America civil rights. We feel it would be helpful to reprint that statement, along with our response. Chip’s comments are in bold below, followed by our response.
“I’m not here to suggest we repeal the Second Amendment or to suggest that gun owners aren’t responsible.”
Translation: I’m here to repeal the Second Amendment and we should take guns away from all of you knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing hillbillies in flyover country.
“In fact, as a former US Army officer, I took a solemn oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
He plans to read the Constitution any day now, so he’ll know what that oath entails.
“But as retired four-star general Michael Hayden once said—”
Wait, who? Oh, the former CIA Director who expanded domestic surveillance of all Americans to such an extent that Edward Snowden committed treason and had to move to Russia for exposing it.
Also, the same CIA Director who said that the Fourth Amendment doesn’t require probable cause for search and seizure, as long as the search and seizure is “reasonable.”
That’s the constitutional scholar that Chip is appealing to. Hayden is such a constitutional wizard and expert on American rights that CNN hired him as an anti-Trump “national security expert” in 2017. Glad we cleared that up.
As Hayden said, ‘There are some weapons out there that no one should have access to. And actually, there are some people out there who should never have access to any weapons.’
By ‘some people,’ he means ‘American people.’
That’s really great, Chip and former CIA Director Hayden. We prefer to quote Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania delegate to the Continental Congress in 1788. We think he understood that whole ‘support and defend the Constitution’ thing a little bit better, having fought the gun-grabbing British in the Revolutionary War:
“Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American… The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.”
Levi Strauss has joined the progressive left and plans to spend its profits in an effort to disarm law abiding Americans? Duly noted. We’ll be sure to remember that the next time we need a pair of jeans.
