Why is it Always Politicians Who Don’t Know Anything about Guns Advocate for Banning Them?

It’s impossible to have a meaningful conversation with a leftist about guns. Seriously. They are so profoundly ignorant on the topic that it’s like trying to discuss quantum physics with a three-year-old.

What’s frustrating is that guns aren’t complicated. Instead, liberals are ignorant of firearms on purpose.

They don’t want to have meaningful discussions. They want to ban guns, and they want to do it now.

Nuance, finer points, basic truths . . . these are all completely unnecessary to them. They know that firearms are evil, and that’s enough. This is why we have patently ridiculous legislative proposals from Democrats, such as banning a gun show loophole that doesn’t exist.

What you need to realize is that firearm ignorance is strategic for the left. Let’s look at three common misnomers and how they are being leveraged to expand gun control.

Magazines

Very recently, Joe Biden was interviewed about his view on guns. He took that opportunity to explain how he wants to ban all magazines that hold multiple bullets. To the gun-literate, this is an insane statement. He just professed a desire to ban every weapon with a magazine, which includes all semi-automatic weapons.

While he appeared to be stumbling over words (a common problem for Biden lately), he proposed gun control that would completely destroy the 2nd Amendment.

We’re left wondering. Was this intentional, or is he stupid? Did he really mean to ban lever and pump action weapons at the same time? Does he want to rid the country of shot guns and leave only revolvers?

The truth is that it doesn’t matter if his ignorance is feigned or not. Democrats prefer to use imprecise language when it comes to guns and legislation about them. They do so to push their ideas on an ignorant public and get support for total gun bans while professing to just be going after “deadly magazines.” It’s a strategy.

Assault Weapons

Are you tired of having this argument yet? The “assault” misnomer comes in a variety of packages, and it’s proof positive that Democrats have no desire to really do anything to solve mass shootings or curb violence in this country. They’ve turned ignorance into a virtue.

Whether they talk about assault rifles, assault weapons, military-style weapons or whatever other wrong terms they like, the goal is the same. They want all of the guns.

This is clear when you realize that “assault rifle” has a clear meaning defined by the U.S. military. It’s a designation intended for weapons that fall between sub-machine guns and heavy machine guns in function. By that designation, all assault rifles have fully automatic functions (usually with select-fire).

If you explain that to someone who doesn’t know about guns, they’ll probably be surprised, but they’ll still want to ban it. They don’t realize that automatic weapons have been banned for almost a hundred years.

As for Democrats in Congress, can we really assume that they don’t realize military-grade weaponry is not available for civilian use or purchase? It’s their job to know the law, isn’t it? They mess up these terms on purpose, and it’s part of that same strategy. They can ban loosely-defined assault weapons and simply change the definitions to erode our 2nd Amendment as much as they like.

Bullets

This would just be a pet peeve, but Elizabeth Warren just proposed a bullet tax. Her idea is that making ammunition more expensive could reduce gun violence by making it cost-prohibitive.

That might sound like a good idea on the surface, but Warren’s very proposal is stupid in a legal sense. You can’t buy bullets. You can buy cartridges, rounds or ammunition, but none of those become a bullet until they’re flying out of the barrel of a fired weapon. Taxing bullets is completely infeasible.

Warren doesn’t care. She can speak the platitudes and sound like she has a great plan to combat gun crime without violating the 2nd Amendment.

It’s all theatrics. We know the dirty truth. The Democrats don’t know anything about firearms because they don’t think it matters. Since the goal is to ban all guns for all people, why should they care about any distinctions? Any time they talk about only banning specific models or features, they betray their true intentions with their ignorance.

If they actually cared about protecting the 2nd Amendment and your God-given rights, they would take the time to learn what they’re talking about. They would be careful about their proposals. Their refusal to do so is the ultimate proof that the only real goal is to end the security of our free state.
