The Real Extremists in the Gun Control Fight

High-profile mass shootings seem to be in a lull at the moment. That’s absolutely worth celebrating, but it does not call for complacency. The lack of news makes it seem like the gun control battle has gone quiet. The complete opposite is true.

Gun-control activists haven’t slowed down one iota, and they’re collaborating to draft some of the most draconian state and local laws that have ever existed in the United States. What’s frightening is that they might get away with it simply because they have controlled the political narrative so well.

Claims Against the NRA

You’ve heard these enough to recite them by heart. The NRA is evil. They are a bunch of child and baby killers. They have Congress in their pocket. Their lobbying only works because they spend so much money. Anyone who supports the NRA is a gun-loving nut job with a small male member.

It’s the basic sentiment that comes pouring out of the left on a daily basis. They have extended extraordinary efforts to paint the NRA in a truly evil light. They blame every mass shooting and murder on this group and label them as an extremist hate group in the process. You surely know the counters to these irrational claims. Instead of going back over them for the millionth time, today, we’re going to take a look at real extremism.

Oregon’s New Ammo Ban

The state of Oregon has drafted legislation that aims to severely limit gun ammunition. It’s tied to laws that would limit magazine capacity to five rounds. As insane as that statement is, ammo purchasing is dramatically worse. They want to make it illegal to purchase more than 20 rounds of ammo a month. That’s not per weapon. It’s an absolute total.

It won’t surprise you to know that this law was originally drafted by high schoolers, and you can see the naive intent. The thinking is that severely limiting ammo purchases will prevent a repeat of the tragic Las Vegas shooting. You also know why this is stupid. In a crowded situation, 20 rounds is plenty to kill too many innocent people. A madman can fully abide by the law, right up until he pulls the trigger, and still be adequately armed to create havoc.

What this extreme law actually does is reduce gun safety. Anyone who has fired a weapon knows that it takes thousands of rounds to master a firearm. Restricting access to those rounds hurts the competency of law-abiding citizens. Without access to sufficient ammunition, accidents become more prevalent. Most importantly, the people who could stop the madman won’t be able to hit their targets.

It’s possible that this is part of the legislation’s goal. If everyday citizens are no longer competent with their firearms, it’s hard to argue that they are effective for self-defense. Why not just confiscate them from people who are more of a danger to themselves than to any bad guys?

Due Process

The other big push right now is for red flag laws. The left clearly doesn’t think the 2nd Amendment is valid. Thankfully, it is, but we’ll gloss over those arguments today. Instead, we should focus on the 5th Amendment. Due process is arguably the most important component to a free society. Assaults on due process are essential to maintaining a tyrannical government.

Silencing free speech and disarming the population are the other two keys. The left has successfully regulated speech through the court of public opinion. They’re working on the other two.

Every single red flag law is a violation of due process. The very concept is to confiscate weapons from someone who clearly has not committed a crime. Instead, they violate fundamental rights on the assumption that the individual might commit a crime at some point. There is no justification that stands to scrutiny. You cannot prevent crimes by punishing the innocent.

All of the extremist, Nazi-esque legislation is being drafted by the left. Restrictions on freedom, extreme stances and literally shouting down any opposition are purely leftist positions. The problem is that the average citizen isn’t engaged. Most households in this country have a firearm. Most of those firearm owners are completely unaware of the extremism that is attacking their right to bear arms. The only way to prevent the impending leftist dystopia is to keep people informed. Share this information far and wide to ensure that every American knows their rights and the threats facing them.
