Concealed Carry Civilian Saves Cop
It’s rare to hear a good story come out of Chicago. Admittedly, this story came dangerously close to following the city’s trend. But, a ray of hope can be found anywhere, and while plenty of murder and terror afflicted one of our nation’s largest and most prominent city, a small tale of heroism and unparalleled courage arose. This is the story you won’t hear from traditional media outlets, and it’s important that you know what happened.
A Dark Day in Cicero
Being a suburb of Chicago, Cicero, Illinois, sees plenty of violence. The people there have been plenty impacted by the consistent days of terror and dozens of shootings that occur every weekend. Still, sometimes things get even worse. That was the case last week.
Officer Luis Duarte and his partner were having a typical work day. While violence may have threatened other parts of the metro area, their day had been peaceful so far. They received a call about a stolen car. When they saw a car with a matching description and California plate, they pursued. The suspect in the car refused to pull over and led the officers on a chase. They were able to box the car in near an on ramp to I-55. That was when things took a dark turn.
Unwilling to surrender, the suspect exited the car as soon as he stopped. He began shooting at the officers and fleeing. They returned fire, and the gunfight was soon bloody. Officer Duarte was hit multiple times by what was later described as automatic weapon fire. He called in his own injuries, and things were looking dire.
A Hero Emerges
Despite the call, it was unlikely that help would be able to arrive before the situation turned fatal. Still, the officers stayed engaged, lest the shooter turn his gun on civilians. It was at the darkest moment when a regular civilian displayed great courage. The unnamed, concealed-carry holder left his car and also engaged the suspect. With the extra firepower, the civilian and officers were able to work together and bring the suspect down.
It is unclear whether the civilian or officers delivered the injuring shot, but with a single wound, the suspect stopped firing and was apprehended. He was sent for medical care and is currently in serious condition.
As for Officer Duarte, he was hit four times. While his injuries were serious, he received medical care in time, and he is currently recovering from surgery.
The civilian hero’s name has been kept private for security reasons. That didn’t stop Cicero’s Town President from publicly praising him. Without using his name, the President commended the hero and thanked him for saving two of Cicero’s finest.
A Good Story
This story is harrowing, but it has a positive tone. A situation that easily could have left many people dead was contained and controlled by extraordinary bravery and swift action. It’s the kind of heroic tale that Americans love to celebrate. Why, then, is it such a minor story?
You know the answer to this question. This story breaks every rule of mainstream reporting. For starters, it’s largely positive. The good guys won and the innocent were protected. Mainstream media hates good news.
More importantly, this is another drop in the ocean of stories that prove everything the MSM claims to want is woefully wrong. The one thing the left and right in America can agree on is that Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. None of those stopped this criminal from acquiring an automatic weapon — the most heavily regulated and hardest to obtain kind of weapon in the whole country.
In fact, crimes with automatic guns are rare. Typically the risk associated with them is too high to be worthwhile. But, in Chicago, the risk of acquiring any gun is high, so you might as well go big. Still, the ultimate sin in this story is that a legal, carrying firearm owner saved the day.
The last thing the gun grabbers will ever do is acknowledge any instance when a good person with a gun does a good thing. For them, guns are so inherently evil that such a situation must be impossible. They will apply their doublethink and pretend situations like this never happen.
You know the truth. You’ve likely seen the data. American citizens use guns to stop crime more than three times as often as they use guns to commit crime. Armed Americans save far more lives than they take. There is no debate here. Don’t let mainstream media have their way. Share this story far and wide and help our country celebrate real heroism.
